Trainee School in Arctic Marine Geology and Geophysics (AMGG)

Welcome to the webpage for the Arctic Marine Geology and Geophysics (AMGG) trainee school. AMGG was established in October 2005, and is now one of six trainee schools established by the Board of University of Tromsø (Universitetsstyret). The aim of the AMGG is to train PhD students and young scientists in the field of arctic marine geology and geophysics.

The Department of Geosciences at UiT The Arctic University of Norway, is host of the trainee school, joining forces with theGeological Survey of Norway, Norwegian Polar Institute and The University Centre of Svalbard (UNIS).

The PhD trainee school offers courses, cruises and workshops. The research focuses on the development of arctic continental shelves and margins, including topics such as:

  1. glacial processes and products,
  2. geo-hazards, -fluids and  gas hydrates,
  3. paleo-climate and –oceanography,
  4. energy and environment.

AMGG is closely associated with the Research school on changing climates in the coupled earth system (CHESS)
